About Touchdown Car Rentals
Touchdown Car Rentals was formed to provide Holiday-makers and corporate travellers, arriving at the Gold Coast’s Coolangatta Airport, with a value for money rental car service.
We are a family owned and run car rental business based at Currumbin on Queensland’s sunny Gold Coast, which is very handy to Coolangatta Airport and the southern end of the Gold Coast, plus it is a very short drive to Tweed Heads and the Northern Rivers region of Northern New South Wales, including places like Byron Bay, Murwillumbah, Mullumbimby, Pottsville, Hastings Point, Brunswick Heads and Kingscliff.
How do we differ from other car rental companies? If you look at car rentals in Australia, the majority of rental car companies are either renting brand new cars or older, well-travelled cars. The companies dealing in new cars do a good job – but they are new cars – which means you have to pay big dollars to hire them and you need to ask yourself do you really need to pay that sort of money. As for the companies dealing in much older cars – well let’s just say their intentions are good. They buy cheaper vehicles, typically between $1000.00 and $5000.00 and because of economic factors associated with their over -heads, they can’t really provide a substantially cheaper price. So whilst their vehicle value might be, say, 5% - 20% of a new car, their rental price might be 40% - 60% (or even more) of the new car companies – and that says nothing of the comparative quality of the two types of vehicles – including reliability and safety.
We at Touchdown Car Rentals are trying to provide a high quality car at a reasonable price.
Our cars have low kilometres and look great. They’re what
many might call ‘just run-in’. We are very proud of
the quality of our fleet and maintain them to the highest standards. All
vehicles go through a safety check before being hired-out to ensure your
holiday is as hassle-free as possible.
In comparison with the major rental car companies our prices are better. Our cars are best described as near new vehicles and whilst they may be 2 to 3 years more ‘mature’ than those of the big companies, in many instances their cars have more kilometres on the odometer. And yes there are some companies out there who may give you a better price, but you have to wonder what sort of car will be waiting for you when you arrive at Coolangatta and what sort of maintenance has been done to it in the past. I remember one chap I met, in a social environment, who was a manager of a local branch of a well known car rental company that advertises cars from under $20.00 per day. When I asked him what type of vehicle you actually get for the cheap advertised price, he laughed and told me that they don’t actually rent vehicles for that price. It’s just a gimmick that brings lots of enquiries and if anyone persists they just tell them that they only have a couple of cars at the ‘special’ price and they never seem to be available for the period that a prospective customer wants one. “As a matter of fact!” he said, “I’ve got a rusty pushbike out the back. They can rent that.” It then dawned on me that pushbikes are rented for that price and more (and I’m not talking about Tour de France road bikes) so what sort of car would you expect to get for under $20.00 per day
